My old black sweater from the 1960′s was in a box of fabric my Mom had been saving to make a quilt. I laughed when I picked it up – it was totally moth-eaten and about 6 sizes too small. It had been one of my favourite sweaters, it was warm, form fitting, BLACK and looked awesome on me, but it was scratchy!
My next experience with wool was in the 1980′s. I was doing a lot of family sewing and entered a pattern company’s contest to show my creations. I won 6 yards of Vyella – it was soft, only slightly scratchy but it was blue plaid – it took me a couple of years to decide to make a quilt with it. I still use the quilt and love it’s warmth and history.
Wool has come a long way since then but I very seldom buy clothing made of wool. I’m at the age where the less I wear the more comfortable I am. My own internal heater is working overtime.
Rambler’s Way uses the “WINDspun” technology to make an ultra-light worsted wool clothing line that is warm but breathes naturally, resulting in a year-round product that even I could wear.
The company is firm in it’s all-natural values, using no chemicals and creating clothing made in America, using wool from local sheep. Chlorine is not used to treat the clothing but a patented enzyme treatment is used to prevent shrinkage and keep the garments fully washable. The products are actually very attractive, breathable and can be worn year round. Whether you are a hiker, biker, skier, walker or just love the idea of an ALL natural product, the Rambler’s Way seems perfect to me. Go meet the sheep and check out the earth-friendly all-American company!

ReplyI remember wool as being scratchy when I was growing up too and so was thrilled when I bought it more recently and found all the great qualities it now has. I love using natural products like wool, cotton and bamboo next to my skin instead of petroleum based materials.
