Sunset on the 4th of July

I hear the kayakers’ paddles dip in the water as they head past the point into the sunset
I hear faint voices of neighbours as they enjoy the last rays
I hear birds singing in the trees
I see a friend in his boat, fishing for lingcod on the reef
I see a man walking on the point, and he waves but doesn’t disturb the peaceful air
I see the Canadian flag at rest
I smell woodsmoke from the cooking fire
I smell the salt air from the chuck as the tide changes
I enjoy the beauty of the Egmont evening
Hugo barks at the kayakers, the man, the flag – then runs his evening marathon, snorting and laughing
Happy 4th of July my friends!

such a nice use of words to express the morning joy.
