MakeBeer.net at Affiliate Summit West

During the last afternoon of Affiliate Summit Joel Garcia of GTO Management happened to mention beer – or perhaps I mentioned beer (much more likely) and he said he had beer that I could have. Imagine – not enough time and too much beer to drink… I had no idea what I was getting into!

Joel was NOT kidding… after his wife Karen Garcia heard what we were up to, the logistics of the transfer were figured out in a snap. We were all heading to the Voodoo Lounge and on their way, they stopped by McFadden’s Irish Pub to say I would be picking up the beer ‘later’.

The next afternoon I asked my very strong friend Paulette if she would come with me to carry a case of beer back to our hotel room. “Sure,” she said – “No problem, I could carry 3 or 4 cases if I had to!” She also said, “WHY is there beer in McFadden’s for you???” I briefly explained how and why and off we went. It must have been nearly a mile roundtrip to our room as we were in the furthest end of the furthest tower and my feet were already sore.

We walked in to McFadden’s and sat at the bar. The man next to me said, “That chair is being saved for someone” and he wasn’t awfully polite about it – in fact he was quite rude. I said, “Okay, I won’t be here long.”

When the bartender came over, I quietly said my name to him and said there were 2 cases of beer in the cooler for me. I knew the drip next to me did not hear WHAT I said, he just assumed I was ordering a drink. The bartender came back with a 24 pack of Cooper’s Lager, then another 24 pack of Cooper’s Ale. Paulette and I were googly eyed by this time and exhausted just looking at it, imagining how far we’d have to carry it.

I tipped the bartender and said a polite goodbye to the rude guy and we walked away with the beer. Luckily, we ran into the amazingly strong, affiliate marketer Murray Newlands just a few steps away and he hoisted my case of beer on his shoulder. Paulette was a trooper and carried hers without complaint. We neared the elevator and ran into a porter with a trolley. He was happy to help us get the beer to our room and in return we gave him one of cases. I’m sure he was the most popular guy at work that night!

BUT, that’s not the end of the story… yes, we drank mucho Cooper’s Lager and were wandering through the casino later that evening when the ‘rude’ guy walked up to us and said, “HEY, you two – how the heck did you get that beer from McFadden’s?” He said, “We ALL watched you walk in, pick up 2 x 24 packs of beer and you walked out without paying a cent. How, the heck did THAT happen? Who are you? What are you doing with all that beer?”

Mmmmmmmmmmmm… that felt good! And, of course we did not give him an answer The answer for you, my friends, is that MakeBeer.net is a client of the Garcia’s and they held a get-together at McFadden’s during ASW10 – and supplied ‘samples’.
