The Power of Giving

While attending IZEAFest 2009 at SeaWorld, I was approached by a woman who asked if I would do a video interview. I didn’t know who she was and I was on my way to the bathroom, so I excused myself, flattered that she would ask, but gave her a definite, “NO, but thanks for the compliment of asking.” As I was washing my hands, she came in and started talking to me again.

I had no idea who she was but recognized her last name as ‘Whitlock’ and she introduced herself as Jaan Whitlock, Warren’s wife. Of course I know Warren Whitlock as an ‘Author, Speaker & Social Media Strategist’ having met him online through my friend Julie, so I questioned her as to what the interview was about.
Jaan explained that Azim Jamal was conducting interviews regarding ‘The Power of Giving’ and wanted to interview people about how they give back in their lives. I said I’d never done a live interview and was way too nervous but that I would find her some excellent bloggers who’d be very happy to be interviewed! Every blogger I asked was so pleased to do this and soon I had a number of people lined up for Jaan! After hearing the types of questions and observing Azim’s calm, gentle personality, I knew I could do it, too! Here it is: my very first live interview – nervous as all get out – but I only stumbled once – over my name – haha.
The Power of Giving
Jaan told me Azim Jamal is from Vancouver and of course I googled him to find out more about his book. The Power of Giving won the ‘Nautilus Award’ and Azim is co-author with Harvey McKinnon who also lives in Vancouver. I am absolutely thrilled to have taken part and to be interviewed for this project.
Giving back has always been a huge part of my life, from volunteering for the Power Squadron, fundraising for school projects, helping to raise funds for the Egmont Community Hall, the Egmont Heritage Centre and now as my Pop is in his late 90’s, helping him enjoy every minute of precious time. Well, okay, maybe that’s a little extreme – we do have our differences, but I’m glad to be here with him to make his life a little easier ![]()

Congrats on the interview! I attest that you are very helpful, even in person
