Princess Cruise Ship Impales Whale, Photo and Video of Sapphire Princess in Vancouver Harbour

This was an unusual sight for tourists as they watched the beautiful Princess Cruise Lines Ship, “Sapphire Princess” dock in Vancouver Harbour this morning.

The 50-foot long Fin Whale, weighing approximately 200,000 pounds, was impaled by the cruise ship enroute from Alaska to British Columbia. Apparently, this is a rare occurrence although I do remember hearing of a similar sad event about 10 years ago.

This CTV News clip video shows the whale impaled on the hull just above the bulbous bow.

It wouldn’t really be a surprise if things as huge as this ship would be breaking and hurting some of the natural wonders of our oceans.
