First Boating Trip of Spring 2009

Hugo is my little Boating Buddy!

He absolutely loves being aboard the boat and seems to have no fear of being out on deck while we are underway. Of course, I’m afraid his little claws will slip on the fibreglass and he’ll go overboard so I watch him every second. He has gone over by accident 3 times and he doesn’t much like the cold surprise, but the sights and sounds of the water, birds, boats and people keep him poised right at the edge!

Yesterday afternoon, Kent, Crystal, Morgan, Trevor, Hugo and I went from the Nico Wynd Marina downriver to Crescent Beach Marina to fuel and water up. Kent scrubbed down the accumulation of winter grunge while we were there as the water is still shut off at our marina.

It was a beautiful sunny day but not warm enough to be out on deck for long while we were traveling but Hugo and I spent a few minutes out watching the geese. As we came back upriver we had a close look at the catamaran and sailboat which sank in the winter in the boat basin.

Most of the boats anchored in the river boat basin are there because it is free to anchor and marinas won’t take them if they don’t have insurance – so if a problem occurs and the boat sinks, usually the owners leave them. It’s an eyesore and rather dangerous to other boaters.

Our first outing on the boat was only about 2 1/2 hours but it felt good to be back on the water! We will be leaving around the first of May for our 5 months living aboard – and yes, Hugo will spend much of that time with us!

Hugo is very cool- what a cute dog. I”m sure the boat is totally fun for him!
