Blogger vs WordPress

Many people tell me changing to WordPress from Blogger was the best thing they ever did for their blogging.
I just don’t get it… after being on WP for a year now I still am trying to learn to make changes, and it’s seldom my changes work properly or immediately. I can name 2 times, a plugin was completely successful and worked simply and perfectly and didn’t cause me to want to pull out my hair in frustration.
Blogger was simple – everything is included on the dashboard. If I needed to change the html code or add something into the code, everything was on one page and a ‘Control F’ found it quickly. Sure, I made a few mistakes adding code as that seems to be one of the hardest things – but really it’s a piece of cake! Navigation in Blogger is simple, pictures upload quickly with no ‘ this file was too large to upload’ nonsense like I continually run into on WP and making a post ’sticky’ was one of the first things I learned.
Over the last year, there have been many times I’ve wanted to make a post on this blog ’sticky’, which means to stay at the top of the page until I decide it’s been there long enough, but could never figure out how to do it. My more recent posts always pushed it down the page. Well, I found out today I needed to upload a plugin to make sticky posts. Hmmmm… that only took me a year.
‘Simply Sticky’ is simply simple. I downloaded it to my desktop, unzipped it, uploaded it to my plugins folder, activated on my dashboard, followed the simple directions to make a sticky post (which you will see right above this one). It worked – absolutely flawlessly!
You want to hear something ironic? The ‘Simply Sticky’ WordPress plugin comes from a Blogger blog – http://bitworker.blogspot.com.

WordPress rocks! If you ever want to do anything and don’t know how – just search it in google. Someone, somewhere has done it and written about it. It may be more work initially (setup, customization) but afterward the return is unlimited.
There are tons of WordPress “how-to” blogs and websites – most are free. Use them.
I’m sorry about your plugin issues – I’ve only had problems with one plugin and that was a compatibility issue.
Good luck – hope this helps.
ReplyThe latest version of WP gives you the option to save your post as a sticky. The box is right up there with save as a draft. It doesn’t require a plug in.
