Vancouver International Boat Show

Pop, Kent and I went to the Vancouver International Boat Show this afternoon. We always enjoy wandering around, looking at the new boats, the bells and whistles and vendor displays.

This years show seemed slightly smaller than previous years, and there didn’t appear to be as many ‘industry’ people as expected on the first day according to one vendor. As the afternoon wore on the traffic seemed to pick up, so hopefully the show will be it’s usual success. It certainly wasn’t anything like the disappointing Seattle boat show which had 400 fewer exhibitors this year, compared to last year.

I took photos of various boats and displays, had fun talking to people and ogling the little blue and white polka dot doggie life jackets. I was an inch away from buying one when the vendor happened to mention he didn’t get the ‘camo’ jackets in. WHAT? There are ‘camo’ life jackets available. I HAVE to get Hugo one of those! He looks so handsome in camo – and polka dots are sort of girlie anyway.

Nikka, a very large marine store, had a huge display as usual, with author Clyde Ford speaking about his newest nautical thriller, “Precious Cargo”. He was very interesting and explained how his book is the first to have a cool new Google Earth ‘tie in’ feature which flies you right in to the locations named in the book. I like this idea as it will make the story that much more realistic when you may actually ‘see’ pictures of the area talked about in the book. Here’s a quick video of Clyde telling me in his own words about the book and Google Earth. Enjoy!

I’m convinced my husband and I need to buy a boat before we buy a house. I grew up on my grandparents boat, and it’s way more fun than a house.

ReplyI love boatshows!! They’re so much fun. I grew up with my grandparents living on a huge saltwater river, and my dad owned a small sailboat. I learned to sail when I was about 8 years old. I love being on the water. I’d give anything to own a boat and have somewhere to sail…
