Kent and I took Pop and Sylvester to Egmont this morning. Pop has ‘things to take care of’ and was glad to head home for a couple of weeks, even though he will be on his own. As long as the weather is decent, it shouldn’t be a problem. He might need to go shopping but will pick a good day so he’s not driving in the rain. Yes, at 95 and 1/2 he’s still driving locally.
I’m going to Las Vegas for 4 days and Crystal is going to the Mayan Riviera for 7 days, so I didn’t really think it was fair to ask if Kent minded having Pop there at our place while we were gone!
It was a quick trip up, with a stop at IGA to stock Pop’s fridge. I put away his groceries and watered and fed Sylvester while Kent pushed a huge floating tree out from under the the ramp to the floats. Then we were on our way home. We made a quick stop at the Backeddy Pub to say hello and have a beer then were off to the ferry.
We couldn’t believe the amount of snow at Langdale – there must have been 4 feet and I can only imagine how chaotic traffic on the very steep hill must have been at the height of the snowstorm! I’m glad we decided to not go to Egmont for New Years.
Driving onto the ferry, Kent was trying to subtly indicate to the ferry worker that he’d like to be put in the middle lane (which unloads first). The ferry worker was having none of that – and indicated for Kent to go into the outside lane. Once the guys back was toward us, Kent zipped into the middle of lane, thinking he’d outsmarted the guy.
I could see in my side mirror that he turned around and saw what Kent had done, then I saw him walking toward the car and said, “Uh, oh – he’s coming to give you heck!” “Ya, I see him”, said Kent. I told Kent he should get out and run, but he stayed put while I was chuckling and saying, “You’re gonna get it!”
The ferry worker rapped loudly on the window. Of course, Kent had already shut off the engine and pocketed the keys so he had to dig for the keys, slowly insert them in the ignition, then put down his window. The ferry worker said, “You just assured that you will be LAST off the ferry” and walked away.
Sure enough, they held the middle lane we were in ’til the very last. Haha… we all know rules just do not apply to Kent, but once in a while someone gets him!
