Crescent Beach Yacht Club Christmas Lights Cruise

Last Saturday we invited 9 people aboard the ‘Jervis Mist’ to take part in the annual CBYC Christmas Lights Cruise.

Everyone boarded about 3:30 and we met up with the other boats in the Nickelmeckl River. About 4:30 (just at dark) we started the procession down the river, with the ‘Vigilant’ as our lead boat. The Vigilant is the Crescent Beach Coast Guard Auxilliary Unit 5 twenty-six foot rigid hull inflatable high speed response vessel.

It was very, very windy, bitterly cold and starting to snow so it wasn’t an easy trip but tons of fun. Between Kent and Brian’s years and years of experience, and all the other boating guys and gals aboard, we were well manned and equipped for the event!

We enjoyed all different types of appetizers, from fresh out of the oven mushroom caps to smoked salmon, pate, proscuitto wrapped asparagus, egg salad sandwiches to cheese and crackers along with a few drinks (Captain and crew abstaining until we were back at the dock of course).

I tried to take video of the boats lit up with their Christmas cheer but it was bitterly cold out on the deck and a little rough and windy to be out there in the dark. Pictures inside were much better!

We went from the Nico Wynd Marina to CBYC and back, tied up to the dock. The snow was seriously sticking to the ground by then and Pop had to walk his walker up the ramp – in the dark. His balance is not good in the dark but he was fine with Keith’s help. He decided he’d be safer at home than coming with us to the yacht club and having to climb the slippery steps. He was right in that choice!

We then drove to CBYC for drinks and dinner. As you can see from the pictures, we had a good time. We closed the yacht club down and the ‘kids’ still wanted to party so the 6 of us (Trevor, Morgan, Crystal, Dave, Kent and I) went on to a local pub where we met others we knew.

Kent and Morgan enjoyed singing Karaoke and we enjoyed watching them. By the time the pub closed we were hungry again so went to Boston Pizza for a late snack. Unfortunately, I never got as far as eating the snack – I HAD to go home. Crystal, Dave and I took a cab in the snow, leaving Kent, Morgan and Trevor to eat the pizza!

Sunday was a slow day for me…

What a fun time! I do, however, notice some “drinking and boating” going on.
