Gingerbread House

Kaia and I made our Gingerbread House tonight and I think it turned out very well, other than one side caved in slightly, the icing lines are terribly crooked and the tree broke. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we were proud of our little house in the snow.
Speaking of snow, we are in the midst of a blizzard this very minute with 4 to 8 inches expected overnight and tomorrow. By the looks of it, we’ll have that by morning. The flakes are tiny icy crystals and blowing at a 45 degree angle so it’s not fun to be outside right now… but once the snow stops falling it’s going to be a winter wonderland with all the evergreen tree branches laden with the snow load.

It is so nice Heather.. I am proud of you and Kaia.. By the way, it looks so yummy! LOL
ReplyI love it–I think the imperfection are what gives it really warmth and charm

ReplyThat is so cool! Did you buy a kit, or did you make it from scratch. I’ve never made one, and today seems like a perfect day to try this out!
ReplyOh that’s a beautiful gingerbread house! My girls and I used to love making them and always end up with a stomachache later. lol!

ReplyHaha vein – that’s my excuse too! It doesn’t matter how it looks – it’s the fun of being together, making memories!

Hey Julie! I bought a kit for 9.99 at Costco. It’s very easy and not nearly as much work or frustration as making the gingerbread yourself.
I bought another one at Michaels but haven’t made it yet – it’s actually two Rice Krispie houses and might taste better than the gingerbread.

Oh JMom, I was worried about Kaia too – she ate so many candies while we were making it – and icing too, then we had home made tarts after dinner – then more candies… and she was planning to eat the gingerbread man when she got home… her tummy might be rebelling!
I hope she didn’t keep Mommy and Daddy up all night with her huge sugar high – heh, heh… snicker, snicker – that’s what Grandparents are supposed to do right? Spoil them rotten then send them home!
ReplyI think it looks terrific. Did you use graham crackers?
