Naked Christmas Tree Party

Our Naked Christmas Tree party was a hit! Kent, Crystal and I sent out invitations to friends and relatives to join us Saturday night for dinner and a get-together. Usually we make it a pot luck dinner but this year Crystal decided it would be easier if ‘we’ prepared the food and the guests brought whatever they wanted to drink and an ornament for our Charlie Brown tree.

We’ve held this same party for 31 years now – Crystal’s birthday is the 6th and Kent’s is the 7th, so we’ve always partied this first weekend of December. Kent cut the Christmas tree at the side of the highway on the Sechelt Peninsula – yes, I know it looks like it – but that was the whole point!

Crystal was certainly right about the food. I had everything ready to go and at the last minute tossed the salads, pulled the lasagna out of the oven and set out all the other platters. Much less stressful than having everyone in the kitchen asking when to get their food item ready, asking how to use the microwave, wanting to warm something in the oven, etc….

As each person put their ornament on the tree, we took photos then I quickly uploaded them to a lovely digital photo Christmas ornament (it shows in the first picture of the tree above) which shows a slideshow of the pics. It is a very small screen but a wonderful record and memory of all the guests and the fun theme party.

The ornaments we received are so interesting. Some are homemade – which are very, very special in my opinion. I could tell each person chose with great care the special ornament to bring us. There are trees, reindeer, golf balls, trains, snowflakes, angels and of course the more traditional balls.

We will certainly treasure each one for years to come – and we have a record of who brought which ornament on our digital frame.

You can see all the pictures in my Facebook album.

Now that sounds like fun. Allowing friends and family to partake in the decorating of the tree. What a fantastic idea.

I actually love your blog! I arrived to comment on the BenSpark.com box of awesomeness and I got stuck so here’s another comment!!!

We have a balding naked tree at the moment!!! It’s a fake tree that is malting like a real one and it’s naked because I got it out on Sunday and then realised that the lights we have aren’t the right ones! They have like really dated shades on them and I wanted the pretty ones that my Mum bought me and my OH for our first Christmas tree (Which was the year before we got married!) and apparently they are still at church so we have a naked tree minus the angel on the top lol

That’s a great idea! We usually have holiday parties, but never ask anyone to bring an ornament, we usually provide them. I think I’ll have to try that next time. I love the idea of keeping the digital ornament, too!

What an awesome family tradition to start! I love the idea of the Christmas Tree being imperfect. It makes it that much better. It’s a real, live, cut-down-your-own tree. I think that my family will have to try this next year; it sounds just too fun to pass up!

    Happy Holidays!

What a fun idea! And the tree ended up looking good from what I could see. I bet it’s just beautiful fully decorated.
