Breaking Eggs

Kaia is coming over this afternoon to help me make her ‘Happy Birthday Cake’.

What’s more fun than breaking eggs, measuring and stirring – then icing and decorating? Her Dad will leave her for a few hours then come back when the cake is ready and we will celebrate – a couple of days early but there’s nothing wrong with celebrating the whole Birthday week – especially when you are 6!
Kent and I went to Costco yesterday thinking we’d pick up a toy or game or whatever to give to Kaia. It should be easy to find something new and fun, right?
The ‘Pop Beads’ immediately caught my attention – can you imagine how much fun it would be to string all 5 million of these fat, brightly colored, beads together? Oh, seeing them brought back memories of the 1950′s! Kent’s reaction was, “Ya, and they’ll be spread from one end of the house to the other.” And that made me remember Sean saying how every time his bare foot found a small, sharp item on the floor in the middle of the night he picked it up and put it in the garbage (after he finished hopping around on the other foot, yelping in pain!). Pop beads were out.
Kent looked at the little ‘Dirt Devil’ cleaning set – ummmmm… nope – not something I’d appreciate so I can’t buy it for anyone – that’s one of my rules of gift giving – if I don’t like it I’m not buying it no matter how much you want it. You want funny t shirts, go buy them for yourself!
The Mechano set was fabulous!!! It even comes in it’s own plastic carrying case and I loved playing with my brothers’ mechano sets. For some reason Kent didn’t seem excited about that idea.
Next the cupcake maker caught my eye! Kaia loves baking and she and Sean are really into making muffins these days. I stopped to look and started to suggest it to Kent. He wasn’t impressed and started to say, “Does she really need more…?” Ya, ya… he was right. Kids all have way too many toys.
AND, out of the blue, a brilliant idea popped into my head! Kaia if you are reading this, stop right now so I don’t spoil the surprise
I’ve been going through all my digital pictures and trying to sort them into some order and back them up on my external hard drive and I have 6 years of pictures of Kaia. Kids love looking at pictures of themselves – especially of when they were babies. Sooooooooooo, I dragged Kent over to see this:
Now, how brilliant am I??? Of course we bought it and I’ve been loading it up with photos. Kaia can have this sitting on a shelf in her room to see family photos any time she wishes. It’s a gift she can use for years! I love it, so I think she will too.
Happy 6th Birthday Kaia!

Ha ha! I just bought my grandaughter popbeads! But I love the idea of the digital pictures, but sadly, no time right now.

ReplyWhat a fantastic photo! You have a performer on your hands. I love buying gifts for the kiddos…it’s a vicarious thrill. But, when you can actually get in and make cupcakes with ‘em…now that’s fun!
