Craigslist Selling

Have you done any selling on Craigslist?
I’m just getting started and wondered about having prospective buyers coming to the door to pick up items. How do you handle that? I’m not sure I want strangers coming in my house, so do I meet them at the door or in the driveway and exchange items for money?
What about when I have large dollar items for sale? Should I accept cash or checks or Paypal only?
I’m so new at this… with eBay it’s always been easy to deal with others whether it was me buying diet pills or someone buying an item from me. Everything was done via email, Paypal, USPS or UPS – no face to face meeting.
What am I selling you ask? Take a look!
My Little Pony Twilight Twinkle
Fairytopia BarbieSOLD!
Winnie the Pooh Baby Book
The Night Before Christmas Pewter Ornaments
Sweet Sun Bonnet Sue Baby Storage Wall Hanging
I have lots more items to list. Listing is a snap – simply take a photo, upload it, write a description, price your item, select a category and you’re selling. Sit back and wait for buyers to send you an email! I’m hoping to start downsizing my huge collections of ‘everything under the sun’!

I’ve only sold big things from Craigslist (cars/furniture) and try to meet the people someplace when I can. The people that have shown up at the house to pick something up have been very nice, but it still makes me nervous. And I’m a cash only type of girl.

ReplyThanks Corrin. I think I’ll try to have someone else here in the house with me when a buyer comes to pick up an item
I’ve sold (and bought) MANY things using CL and have never had a bad experience. I only accept cash, and I make sure that Michael, and the two TALL teenage boys are home with me (and present during the transaction). We always do the exchange from our driveway also, I don’t like strangers in my house.

I actually just sold my very first item – hurray – one item down and 2 million to go….
ReplyThat’s a great idea to have your sons and Michael around! I’ll have my 95 year old Dad here, so he can beat the bad guys off with his cane
Yeah, selling stuff on craigslist is a snap. Just have to watch out for the occasional scams. If you have unneeded stuff and want to make some quick cash, this is a great way to get rid of it. I would say take only cash (or paypal if you must) and exchange the goods in a public place and let someone know when/where you’ll meet the person. Definitely don’t meet at your home.
I made room for new camera gear (5D mark 2) by bundling up a bunch of old lenses and such. Sold it within a week. Here’s more detail on the steps I took to get my order to sell quickly:
