‘Book Review for Bloggers’

What attracts you to a book – the author, the cover, the subject or a review?

I’ve gone through all the different stages and concentrate now on subjects more than anything. If a book is about a topic I’m interested in, I’ll read it – otherwise, I find reading online is the nearly as interesting. Maybe that means I have a short attention span these days!

Thomas Nelson has started a Book Review for Bloggers. This sounded like such a good idea, I immediately signed up and a day later, they are mailing a hard cover book to me to read and review – and keep – and it’s a subject which interests me, so I know I’ll read it.

In 2006 3 climbers were trapped on Mount Hood during a major snowstorm, and their story riveted me to the hourly updates on the news channels.

Once I read the entire story by Karen James (a climbers’ wife) I will review the book right here! In the meantime, here is a Amazon link to ‘Holding Fast’.

In answer to your question, I’d have to say first the title, then I always open it to the first page. If the writer can grab me in those first few moments, it’s a winner and I’ll read it. Sometimes, however, beginnings are slow, so I randomly open the book and read any passage that appears. If the premise of the book appears to “pick up steam” from this random opening, again it’s a winner and I’ll be reading it. The one you are reviewing looks very promising! And I’ve open the site for review later in the day (and most likely signing up!).
