Campbell River Day

We borrowed Jill’s car today to do a few errands and shop. I really like the town of Campbell River, especially when we tie up at the Discovery Marina which is so close to all the major shopping.
After doing a few loads of laundry, we went to the liquor store then picked up Jill to have lunch together. After dropping Jill back at work we went to Grunlands to try to buy bear bangers. Of course they were out… 3 out of the 4 times we’ve gone there, they’ve been ‘out of stock’. Bear bangers create a loud noise to scare away the bears when we’re hiking in remote wilderness areas. I like to be safe rather than surprise a bear and scare us both to death!
Next stop was London Drugs where I picked up quite a few necessities. We parted ways back in the parking lot while Kent took our supplies to the boat and I headed to the grocery store. He came looking for me but I was all over the store, enjoying just looking so he bought what was on his list and was back at the boat half an hour before I returned. When I got to the checkout I was feeling so guilty about all the impulse buying I was doing, I left 6 items at the cash register – really, it was stuff I didn’t need, just saw and wanted… how good was that?
Late afternoon a boat pulled in to the dock near us and Hugo saw a little white doggie get off the boat. He went out on the bow to have a look and got so excited he fell right off the bow into the water. Lucky he missed the dock and hit the water. As it was it hurt his pride but that was all. The family who owned the white dog all ran over and pulled him from the water. I heard the splash and went out to see but Hugo was running for the back deck by then and sat shivering sheepishly. I told him he was having a bath and he came right down the stairs with me and put his little paws up on the side of the tub, ready to get in to warm up. Once he was clean and sweet smelling I put his blanket in the sun at the sliding glass door and he laid there recovering from his big ordeal. A little snooze helped us both feel better…
Sean, Kaia, Jill and Spencer were arriving about 8:30 so we walked up the dock to meet them. Hugo was very, very excited to see them all! We ordered snacks from Boston Pizza and had a really nice evening.
In the morning we’re heading off for Desolation Sound. It will be a quick trip as Sean and Kaia have to be back in CR in time for the 5:30 plane, but we’ll have time for a bit of fun in the sun!
