Game Trails in British Columbia: Big Game and Other Sport in the Wilds of British Columbia
Kent phoned last night from Pink Mountain where he is big game hunting for Bison with a friend. He had lots to tell me about their adventures in the snow and the -14 degree temperatures.
No, they don’t have their buffalo yet, but are staying a few more days. Apparently there is snow on the ground – 6 – 12 inches, depending on where they are. They have a 4 wheel drive and tow the trailer with 2 quads to the area they wish to hunt. Yesterday when they were finished hunting for the day, the hill they had to get up was icy and slippery and part way up (in 4 wheel drive) the truck started sliding backward – with the trailer behind – yikes! Sounds scary to me. Kent said when the truck stopped sliding they got out and chained up and got the heck out of there!
While hunting they came across fresh grizzly bear tracks in the snow and when Kent put his foot in one of the paw prints, the print was 2 inches bigger than his boot… I think that puts it all in persective!
They also came across an SUV with a tent trailer, surrounded by fresh untrodden snow. Where were the people? Did a grizzly bear eat them for dinner? Did they get lost while hunting? Kent and Terry decided to leave the ’scene’ untouched and didn’t approach but called the RCMP as soon as they got back to town. The police ran the licence number but said it came up as a Ford Taurus, not a Ford SUV so asked if they’d go back the next day to check it out as they were too busy. Kent declined – the roads are steep and he didn’t want to get stuck.
He also didn’t want to be dinner for the grizzly bears!

All of that skeered me! Slipping backward in a truck with a trailer attached and grizzly bears. Yikes!
