Where’s Pop?

“Pop” is 94 1/2 years young and still living in his own home – most of the year. Usually he stays with us from October to April but this year he decided he wanted to be home until the end of November.

I hadn’t been able to contact him for a week as the electricity and phones were out in his area, so today I had to put my Emergency Communication Plan into effect!

I emailed a friend who lives part time in Egmont but she wrote back to say she was currently in Bellingham. Beverly had been in Egmont and planned to leave last Wednesday but a huge storm blew in and knocked down over 90 trees on the 4 mile stretch of road which links Egmont to Highway 1. She was able to leave Thursday by driving over and under power lines and around fallen trees and branches. Beverly suggested I email Tom at the Egmont Heritage Center as she knew he would be in the Museum today and they had electricity therefore internet service.

I emailed Tom to say I was slightly worried about Pop since I couldn’t contact him, but that I was sure he was okay and could Tom get a message to him when he next saw my cousin who lives next door to Pop. Instead of doing that, Tom drove right down to Pop’s to see if everything was okay.

Pop was outside on his electric scooter, getting firewood for his woodburning stove and he assured Tom he was ‘fine and dandy’. Tom emailed me to let me know. Thank goodness for friends, neighbours and emergency communication plans!
